A Cat on Stage Left by Lydia Adamson features  catsitter/actress/accidental detective Alice Nestleton in her 16th  adventure. Mary Singer offers Alice a large sum of money to watch her  cat. When Mary attempts to deliver the animal, her chauffeur shoots her  before Alice's horrified eyes. After a grueling session at the police  station, Alice returns home to discover that her charge is a stuffed  cat. Alice looks for an old acquaintance who supposedly recommended her  to the victim and stumbles across a bizarre plot involving several of  her old acting buddies and many unwary women.
