How to Save a Google Book

You probably know about the giant database that is Google Books, but I bet you’ve also noticed that most of those books are read-only and cannot be downloaded :(

One way to download any Google Book is by using Google Downloader, but that requires that you use .NET framework.

Here is a way to accomplish the same thing with a few small programs. It might look like a lengthy process, but it’s actually simple – read on for my two-part explanation.

Note: Mozilla Browser Required

Part 1: Saving Google books as images:

1.Install GreaseMonkey
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

GreaseMonkey allows you to customize the way a webpage displays by using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of popular sites, are already available at http://userscripts.org.

2. Restart your browser and install this script
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/37933

Click on the install option available at the top right.
This script allows you download any book from books.google.com

3. Install the FlashGot addon and restart your browser
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/220

Download all the links, movies and audio clips of a page at maximum speed with a single click, using the most popular, lightweight and reliable external download managers.

4. Install ImageConvertplus
http://www.imageconverterplus.com

This is a great piece of software that lets you combine multiple images into one PDF file.

5. Visit any Google book page. Now you will see a “Download this book” button.

6. Click on the button and wait for the program to extract all the images. An alert message will appear when the process is complete.

7. Now select all the links, right click and choose FlashGot selection browse. Then select the destination location for the files and click OK.

Part 2: Binding all the Google Books images as a Single PDF

This is the really tricky part. It was hard to find a program that does this, mainly because the images are saved with an unknown extension. Most of the available software converts known format images to PDF format.

1. Open image plus converter and drag and drop all your saved images into it.

2. Select the PDF option and the save as multipage file option

3. Click the Start button and the PDF will be saved in Documents and Settings.

Now you can save and enjoy any of your favorite books for free!
